Feature Film Categories

The mission of the Austin Revolution Film Festival is to recognize a wide variety of independent film from around the world. Multiple genres from around the world. However, all filmmakers have been there. You go to a festival, you pay for your flight (or gas Damien), your room, food, buy your fest t shirt, only to see the festival runner’s buddies win.

We’ve done our best to address that by separating the competition. U.S. films compete against U.S. films, Texas films against Texas and foreign against foreign. We feel this levels the playing field as much as possible and still meeting the responsibilities we have for the festival: to support local film communities and further indie film as a whole world wide community. So this year, here are the feature film categories. (comedy and drama are separate categories).

New Sub-Categories

We really believe in the mission of the Austin Revolution. We try to follow it in two ways.

  1. We focus on movies that are truly independent and that show a renegade spirit of making movies. We want the films that aren’t weighed down by budgets and are instead lifted by stories. We’re not against playing movies with a ‘big budget’ or names, but that is also not going to be a factor in whether we accept a film or not. Unpopular to say, but we believe in transparency.
  2. We are also recognizing a few films from populations or about topics that might miss the mainstream. They are revolutionaries in content! We’ll be honoring Veteran made films (or films with a veteran theme), LGBT movies and movies than deal with social issues.
