A block with films about the black experience in America and/or created by black filmmakers, this block will be followed by a panel on inclusion in independent film. The panel will be moderated by UT Professor Ya'Ke Smith.
Ya'Ke is a multi award winning filmmaker, educator and the current Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the University of Texas.
Filmmakers Aimiende Negbenebor Sela (Hermit), Calvin J Walker (The First Time After) and Ali AlKhafaji (Allergies) will be joining him on the panel.
Preceding the panel, the following films will be screened:
Hermit: A grieving husband comes to terms with the loss of his wife the only way he knows how, on a night that would have marked their eighteenth year wedding anniversary.
